Hazardous Materials Response
  • Over 30 firefighters are trained to the Hazardous Materials
    Technician level.
  • All Technicians have been trained to specialize in
    emergency response to Chlorine Incidents.
  • Firefighter response is geared to mitigate incidents and to
    lessen exposure and harm to people and the environment.
  • Firefighters perform atmospheric monitoring, damming,
    plugging, and patching as necessary.
  • All equipment is housed in a 28 foot self
    contained trailer capable of being
    transported to the scene in a matter of
    minutes.
  • All firefighters have been trained in
    Weapons of Mass Destruction with
    several trained to the advanced level of
    Terrorism Technicians.
  • The Lancaster Fire Department has a wide
    array of decontamination capabilities up
    to, and including, mass decontamination.
  • Projections of affected areas in the event
    of a hazardous release are prepared in
    text and map form using computer models
    generated through CAMEO, Marplot, and
    ALOHA.
