The Lancaster Fire Department is an active participant in the STAR team. This team consists
of select members of the Lancaster Fire Department, Police Department, County Fire
Departments, Sheriffs Office, and EMS. Team members are trained in tactics and response to
incidents arising primarily due to acts of terrorism. Their function in the response is keyed to
their primary training as firefighter, police, and EMS, with additional training to prepare them for
the dangers encountered during mitigation of a terrorist action. Members are equipped with
specialized protective equipment that is designed to keep them safe while performing their
assigned duties. There are also vehicles capable of quickly transporting STAR personnel in all
terrain.
Regularly scheduled training includes physical training, classroom instruction, and live scenarios
using the actual equipment that would be employed during an actual incident.
